You already know how powerful sound can be, the right music can pump you up or shift your mood.
What is Sound Healing?
Sound healing synchronizes brain waves to achieve profound states of relaxation, helping to restore the normal vibratory frequencies of the cells in our bodies. The sound waves or vibrations are created by certain tools, like gongs, tuning forks, and singing bowls.
There are different types of sound healing, including vibrational sound therapy, which uses special sounds that produce vibrations taught to improve brain waves. It uses different aspects of sound to improve your emotional and physical well-being. How it works depends on the method of sound healing therapy being used. A session may involve sitting or lying down while listening to music or sounds from a speak or instruments, or having vibrations applied using a special tool, such as a tuning fork.
To get more technical about how it works, “Everything in the universe has a vibrational frequency. In the brain, all our neurons fire at different frequencies based on the data they recieve from things around us. Those vibrations interact with every cell in your body,” explains Mark Menolascino, M.D., an integrative and functional medicine practitioner.
